We believe in giving back to our community. Through local and national partnerships with organizations, such as the American Diabetes Association, the Donate Life Rose Parade® Float and United Way, we are able to make a real difference in the communities where we live and work.
American Diabetes Association
We are proud to be the 2018 Top Corporate Team Fundraiser in the nation for the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure. Because diabetes is pervasive throughout the United States and Canada, we raise funds to support lifesaving research, educational programs, summer camps and assistance for those who live with this disease. In Houston, we are also honored to be the title sponsor of the Dignity Memorial Tour de Cure and the 2018 Top Overall Team Fundraiser, raising over $300,000 annually. We support our associates' fundraising efforts by providing a $0.50 on the dollar Company match for Team Dignity Houston.

We support the mission of the Donate Life program to inspire individuals to save and heal lives by registering to be organ, eye and tissue donors. Because of our commitment to celebrate lives like no other, we are also sponsors of the Donate Life Rose Parade® Float. We honor the lives of remarkable organ and tissue donors through “floragraphs,” portraits made of floral and natural materials, which are placed on the Donate Life float entry in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. For families who participate in this program, it is an indescribable experience which often provides hope, healing and comfort in their grief journey.

We are vigorous champions of the United Way of Greater Houston, an organization dedicated to creating safer, healthier and more prosperous communities. Since 1988, through associate fundraising and our dollar-for-dollar company match, we have contributed more than $8 million in monetary support. The United Way of Greater Houston is the community's social services safety net that touches one of every two lives in the city, and we are honored to uphold its mission.
Our Home Office Human Resources team join forces with the United Way of Greater Houston to support Catholic Charities Food Bank.
Serving the communities where we work is a natural extension of our caregiving culture. From participating in 5K runs to donation drives to volunteering at local churches, our teams continuously find ways to become involved in local community events. For some, it’s an opportunity to be creative and serve those around them. For others, it's a development opportunity to lead local events.
My manager approached me about being involved with our community events. I was excited that she offered me the opportunity, and enjoyed the challenge. It’s such a benefit to be in the community, and through these events, we learn from each other.
At SCI, everything we do is in support of people – our teams, the families we serve, and the people who live in the communities where we operate. That’s why, through SCI’s and the SCI Foundation’s combined charitable giving, we are committed to supporting causes that enhance and promote the well-being of people from all walks of life.
Through the SCI Foundation’s new charitable giving strategy, established in 2020, we focus our charitable giving on areas that align with our core values and business strategy, and with the causes that our associates care about the most, including supporting and honoring veterans, enhancing grief support resources, and raising awareness of the life-saving gifts of organ and tissue donation.
